Synopsis: My mother was born in Kinmen, a tiny island just off the coast of China. Sexism/Male child favoritism is often found in Asian cultures and is even more apparent in a closed off community like the one my mother grew up in. My mother has two younger brothers, so while she carries the responsibility of taking care of my sick grandmother, her efforts are never appreciated by her family, especially not by her mother.
